Except for the fact that my hip is absolutely killing me today, it’s been good fit/health-wise. The hip does impact the workout however. Anyone who’s had to work around pain understands that one. Pain in general causes the heart rate to increase that much more easily, causing one to become winded before they normally would.

On the good side: I did 15 full-body pushups today without needing rest, but the next two sets of 15 were kneeling. I also did “modified chinups”: using a close-grip bar on the lat pulldown machine, then pull the bar towards yourself as though you are doing actual chin-ups. If you can do it without actually sitting on the seat, it helps to activate the core muscles more. I was able to go up to 80 pounds doing 3 sets of 8 reps. Usually when I try to do pull-ups/chin-ups, I do eccentric ones where I jump up then lower myself slowly down (4 seconds or so). I can do 1-2 full chinups without support.

My hubby and I had a long conversation about my hip yesterday. He in fact believes that hormones may be playing a large role in how well my hip operates, as well as in my moods (getting depressed or emotional). Since I’ve been on the pill for 3 years now, and have not progressed as I would like to in the squats/lunges/needing hip replacement areas, he is blaming that. So, anyone else have that experience (the pill affecting something, then going off it is like a godsend in that dept)?

I had some crazy hip tendonitis issues going on last year..mostly flared up when I did the stairmill or when I ran. I went on for months and months...would get better (but not gone) with rest, and would get worse with those 2 exercises. Anyway, I made an appointment, went to see the doctor, she said it was tendonitis, and prescribed physical therapy. Next day it was gone and hasn't been back since. WTH?? I have no idea. :) However, I do know that hormones can relax tendons and connective tissue which could cause problems with joints. I haven't read your entire blog, so I don't the whole issue behind your pain. Seeing an doctor might 'cure' you too :)

The hip issue is actually something that's been off/on since I was in college. Structurally, the x-ray shows that I have one square peg and one round peg ;) which doesn't bode well for keeping it in place. Technically, what I mean is that the anatomy of my hip doesn't match on both sides, so one leg is more comfortable with side-to-side movement while the other is more comfortable with only back-and-front movement. When the two of them work against each other, my left hip moves into a compromised position. I've been seeing a chiropractor forever for it, but sometimes it still hurts in such a way as to impede movement (just saw the chiro last week).

However, having a doctor "cure" me would be great! :D

Well that's just a bummer!
