The Skirt

I never did get on my blog and gloat about the skirt I got this past weekend. Huh.

Well, here it is: I went to Kohl's on Saturday for a new pair of tennis shoes (which I'm not too fond of, sigh), and ended up in the clearance racks on my way out the door. Well, with 70% off, I just couldn't resist and I found some pretty major deals. First, I grabbed a ton of clothes that were either size 10 or mediums, and found a skirt that was a size 6 and a sweater that was a size small.

On some crazy impulse, I grabbed both of them, even though I was sure neither would fit. Well, here's the amazing part: they both did. Yes, I'm speaking the truth here. The skirt, while I had a hard time getting it up over my thighs (you'd think the number of squats I do would have SOME kind of impact on them), buttoned up just fine and looked wonderful on me. I think my mind shut down right there, I was so amazed. That little voice in the back of my head says that skirt is a fluke, because com'on, I haven't even started to wear the size 8 jeans comfortably yet (and that's a thigh issue too). And no, I do not wear my skirts/pants at the level of the belly button. It either buttons below it or I'm not wearing it. The sweater fit too, although I didn't get it because I decided to get a sun dress instead and I'm on a limited budget (even in the clearance section).

So that's my gloat. Now for those jeans...

That's awesome Carrie! Keep it up and get into those smaller sizes quicker than you thought possible - this is just proof you can do it. Awesome!

There is nothing better in this world than being surprised by a size fitting that you didn't think would. VERY happy for you.

Congrats and enjoy the new clothes. My list of the greatest feelings:

1) Fitting into clothes you didn't think you could.
2) Sex
3) Finding $20 while doing laundry.
4) Putting on a new pair of socks.

Meant to also ask you what you thought about Cosgrove's Afterburn training book? I'm a huge fan of his and am thinking about picking it up for future reference.

"Afterburn" is not a great read :D However, it's an awesome workout system. Brutal, but awesome. I loved it because it really forced me to look at the big picture of 16 weeks, and it gave me a specific plan to follow over those 16 weeks, rather than the piecemeal that I had been following before.

As for brutal, I found myself getting slightly burned out by the last phase, since it requires 4 hardcore weight training workouts a week along with 5 HIIT sessions that are 28 minutes.

I did lose weight though, going from approx. 175 to 159 (I didn't start weighing myself until I was halfway through, so I may have been at 168 to begin with, I'm not sure). I didn't follow the nutrition guidelines too closely, and wasn't planning my meals. Likely it would have gone very differently if I had done better on the nutrition side, as it did when I started Turbulence Training and planning my week's meals.

I have yet to drum up the motivation to do Afterburn again, although I would like to. All in all, for ppl who have been working out for at least 6 months, I highly recommend it.

Congrats on the new smaller size. And don't sweat the thighs, they might get there. OR....you may be gaining muscle there. That's a good thing, but I don't know how well it will work out with your jeans. Keep going though, because you're doing great.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, Jim, I know about the muscle, but after having my daughter it seems that those thighs want to be the last place to budge. They've actually measured the same size since the beginning (around 2005 or so, when I started measuring).

Funny enough, apparently the "big thigh" thing is actually a real problem with most girls who lift heavy, since most jeans are made for girls with bird legs. :P
